Merchant intelligence
Most local businesses are invisible to search, and nobody has told them why.
Not invisible because the work is bad. Invisible because a page is missing a title, a link points at a placeholder nobody filled in, or the machine-readable facts a search engine needs were never written. These are small, specific, fixable things. Somebody has to look.
I look, by hand, and I write down what I find.
The Website Technical Review
$250 flat, one time
I crawl the whole site, verify every finding against the live pages, and hand back a list your web person can act on line by line. Three business days, usually faster.
-
Every page, checked
Titles, descriptions, headings, mobile rendering, broken links and dead pages, redirects, duplicate and thin content, images, canonical tags, and whether search engines can index the page at all.
-
A fix list in plain English
Each item says what is wrong, where it is, what it costs you in visibility, how to fix it, and roughly how long the fix takes. Ordered by what matters, not alphabetically.
-
The businesses ranking above you
Where you sit in the local map results for the searches that matter, who is above you, and what their sites do that yours does not.
-
Structured data, written out
The machine-readable block that tells Google and AI assistants your hours, address, and services. Filled in with your real details, ready to paste.
-
Questions answered in writing
Read the list, send me whatever is unclear, and I answer it. No call to schedule and no meeting to sit through. Your developer can write to me directly.
What I will not do
This is most of what separates the review from the thing you have been cold called about.
-
No invented numbers
No estimate of traffic lost, revenue lost, or how far you would climb. Nobody can measure those from a crawl, and a number that cannot be checked is there to justify a price.
-
No ranking guarantees
Anyone promising a position is either guessing or lying. What I can promise is that every problem on the list is real and reproducible on your own site in about ten minutes.
-
No manufactured problems
If a site is in good shape I say so, including the parts that are already right, so nobody bills you to fix them. A short list is a good outcome.
-
No monthly retainer
One review, one fee, and the document is yours to hand to any developer you like. If you want the fixes done as well, that is quoted separately once we both know the list.
Who does the work
Jonathan Froiland, a working software engineer. Not a reseller running your domain through a report tool and mailing you the PDF. The crawl gathers the raw data, and then a person reads it, checks each finding against your live site, and throws out anything the tool got wrong.
MERCHINT is the wider project behind it: a map of local commerce built to work out which businesses the web cannot see. The review is that research pointed at one business.

Send your website address and I will check it and write back with the three things I would fix first. No charge and no obligation, and plenty of people take that list to their own developer and stop there. That is a completely fine outcome.
